Shell International Fined £300,000 Because Of Deficiencies In Fire Safety

It has been reported that on the 2nd of June 2009 Shell International was fined £300,000 because of deficiencies in fire safety at the Shell Centre in central London.

The company was also ordered to pay £45,000 in costs when it pleaded guilty at Inner London crown court to three breaches of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

This was the largest fine that has been imposed under RRO. The London Fire Brigade prosecution followed two small fires in three weeks at the Shell Centre on York Road, Waterloo.

Fire officers had found extensive breaches in fire safety, including blocked escape routes and fire exits and defective fire doors.
