Haulage Firm fined for Fire Safety Breaches

A haulage company in east England was fined for creating a massive fire risk by illegally storing huge quantities of highly flammable aerosals. The Health & Safety Executive prosecuted the company for failures on its site in Leicestershire.

The firm pleaded guilty to breaches of Regulation 6(2) of the Control of Major Accident Hazards Regularions 1999 and section 2(1) of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974. It was fined a total of £5000 and ordered to pay costs of £4900.

The company stored large amount sf liquefied petroleum gas on its site for seven months. It failed to notify the authorities of its operations, did not complete a Fire Risk Assessment and failed to implement many good practices recognised by industry.
